All this week, Behind the Setlist is previewing Volume, a music festival in Spokane, Washington, which features 100 DIY and indie artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond (put together by our friends at the Inlander). Our Spokane team will be on the ground during Volume on June 2 and June 3, but we wanted to dive into these artists ahead of time.

Who are they, where do they come from, and what can we expect? We turned up the Volume on each artist for a little preview palaver.

Chastity Belt @ Steam Plant, 6/3, 7:00pm

Where are you from and how did the group come together?

We all went to college in Walla Walla and met and formed the band there. After college, we moved to Seattle and continued to make music. We’ve been together for about 6 years now.

What’s your favorite song to play live?

Right now, probably “5am.”

What goes into the making of a great setlist?

A nice flow 😉 … (Even Flowwwww)

Anyone you’re excited to see at Volume?

Very excited to see Built to Spill and even more excited that they’re on right after us. Also a big fan of Mall Walk and Versing. I would like to check out Lithics too.

If a Spokanite stumbles into a Chastity Belt performance during Volume, what type of show are they likely to see?

A very chill performance full of emotions and love for one another.
