All this week, Behind the Setlist is previewing Volume, a music festival in Spokane, Washington, which features 100 DIY and indie artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond (put together by our friends at the Inlander). Our Spokane team will be on the ground during Volume on June 2 and June 3, but we wanted to dive into these artists ahead of time.

Who are they, where do they come from, and what can we expect? We turned up the Volume on each artist for a little preview palaver.

Where are you from, how long have you been pursuing music and how did this project come together?

I’m from Spokane, WA. I’ve been actively pursuing music for about seven years with this project starting about two years ago as just a solo side project to my other band. Since then, however, this project has become my main pursuit.

What’s your favorite song to play live and why?

That’s a hard question to answer, but probably my song “No Drive,” I guess. It’s just fast and kind of the height of the set for me.

What goes into the making of a great setlist?

I guess just trying to start on a good high-note with a hooky song at the beginning then maybe bring it down in the middle of the set then end it on another high note with the last song or two.

While at Volume fest, who are you most excited to see perform?

Outercourse, Charlatan, Choir Boy, Versing, Tender Age, and OUTERCOURSE.

What are your plans for the rest of the year? Writing, recording, touring?

Just gonna write some songs, record them, and tour as much as possible.
