All this week, Behind the Setlist is previewing Volume, a music festival in Spokane, Washington, which features 100 DIY and indie artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond (put together by our friends at the Inlander). Our Spokane team will be on the ground during Volume on June 2 and June 3, but we wanted to dive into these artists ahead of time.

Who are they, where do they come from, and what can we expect? We turned up the Volume on each artist for a little preview palaver.

The Echolarks @ the Bartlett, 6/3, 9:15pm

Where are you from, how long have you been a band and how did the group come together?

The Echolarks formed in the Tri-Cities area of Washington in 2013 and relocated to Seattle in 2014. We did a lineup change, but have been with our current lineup for about two and a half years.

What’s your favorite song to play live and why?

I love playing “Deathless No. 8” live. I just feel like the song has a glide to it that moves along without ever touching the ground.

What goes into the making of a great setlist?

We try to create our set to really take people on a journey. We cover a lot of terrain, so we try to make sure that we move through [the set] in a way that gives you some peaks and valleys.

Anyone you’re excited to see at Volume?

Excited to see Super Sparkle and Motopony!

If a Spokanite stumbles into an Echolarks performance during Volume, what type of show are they likely to see?

Like you’re walking through a dream with loud guitars and vocal harmonies.
