All this week, Behind the Setlist is previewing Volume, a music festival in Spokane, Washington, which features 100 DIY and indie artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond (put together by our friends at the Inlander). Our Spokane team will be on the ground during Volume on June 2 and June 3, but we wanted to dive into these artists ahead of time.

Who are they, where do they come from, and what can we expect? We turned up the Volume on each artist for a little preview palaver.

Where are you from, how long have you been a band and how did the group come together?

We are from Spokane, but more specifically, the South Perry District. Jeff (electric guitar) opened the original Lantern Tavern in the neighborhood. The band got to know one another at the micro-sized pub and (after a few too many pints) formed Folkinception. We’ve been a band for over six years now.

What’s your favorite song to play live?

Our favorite song is always the newest one, because exploration breeds intrigue.

What goes into the making of a great setlist?

Knowing the audience and environment. After that it’s just a matter of having the songs and energy to keep everyone engaged.

While at Volume fest, who are you most excited to see perform?

Built to Spill is one hell of a headliner!

What are your plans for the rest of the year? Writing, recording, touring?

We’re releasing our second, full length album July 15th at the Penthouse at the Paulsen. Invitations can be secured while they last at: http://www.folkinception.com.
