All this week, Behind the Setlist is previewing Volume, a music festival in Spokane, Washington, which features 100 DIY and indie artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond (put together by our friends at the Inlander). Our Spokane team will be on the ground during Volume on June 2 and June 3, but we wanted to dive into these artists ahead of time.

Who are they, where do they come from, and what can we expect? We turned up the Volume on each artist for a little preview palaver.

Where are you from and how did the group come together?

Infrablaster has been a band for 5 years. We originally formed in Spokane in 2012 but relocated to Richland, Washington in 2013. Despite several line-up changes, the group was basically formed by members knowing each other through the Washington metal/punk scene and sharing common musical interests.

What’s your favorite song to play live?

Our favorite song to play is the last song of the set, because that means we’re that much closer to party time, haha.

What goes into the making of a great setlist?

To each their own, for us we like to start off slow and grab people’s attention with some grooviness, then suck the crowd in with an unrelenting blast beat and spastic riff-based songs, and then end the set with the most crushing song we have.

While at Volume, who are you most excited to see perform?

Ras Kass, Crimewave, Slug Christ, Nacho Picasso, and Narrow Minded.

What are your plans for the rest of the year? Writing, recording, touring?

After Volume we have two last shows for the year before we go on hiatus. Dankstock in Basin City, Washington on June 4 and G.O.A.T. FEST in Seattle on July 1. As for recording, we plan on recording at least one more demo before 2017 ends.
